July 2016 Recap

July was disgustingly hot and busy for work. While it surprises me that I always feel busy with work, seeing as I don’t ever actually need to work on my weekends unlike last year. But we’ve had a lot of new students start this month since everyone is on summer break. And SATs are coming up for people applying to U.S. schools. So it’s busy!

Destinations Visited:

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Malacca, Malaysia

Eid Al-fitr, the last days of Ramadan were celebrated with tons of food and invitations to co-workers open houses. It was good to see people outside of work and eat some awesome food. We walked around some of the Iftar markets and got some delicious food and I finally tried some homemade delicious beef rendang. Omg. To Die For.

Malacca, a small touristy city about 2 hours south of KL, was awesome. This is the third time I’ve gone down there but the first time I’ve had a chance to actually see the city. My company works with some students down there every few months, usually I have to come back up for work the next day so this time a friend and I went down early. It was great! My friend had already been down there a few times so she walked me around the city and helped me find the best places to eat. More details on my day down there soon!

Challenges:

Just busy at work. I’ve been putting a little more time into my blog this month! Yay! And started working out a little more yay! Overall it’s been a pretty good month!

Singapore is so colorful! I need to write a post about my visit there soon!

What I read this month:

I haven’t been great about reading this week. But I did read The Alchemist by Pablo Coelho. It was amazing. It’s one of those books that I’ve had on my to read list forever but never actually read. It’s so spiritual without being extremely religious. And it gives me hope that if you don’t give up you will find and live out your life’s purpose. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.

What I watched this month

Finding Dory: This is the first movie I’ve seen in a theater since I move to Malaysia and I have to say that I am extremely disappointed in the popcorn situation in Malaysia. Popcorn is supposed to be salty and buttery. Most theaters here, as I recently found out, only have caramel corn! No popcorn! The whole point of going to the movies is to eat the delicious popcorn. The theaters that do have salty popcorn don’t have any butter. Sad!

Me Before You: I didn’t plan on watching this. And it was just ok. Predictable and sad.

Driving Miss Daisy: Always a classic. But I forgot how slowwww movies were when this was made. It moves really slowly. And I just couldn’t get over Morgan Freedman’s laugh.

Gilmore Girls. I’ve somewhat been binge watching Gilmore Girls. If you haven’t seen the new Gilmore Girls trailer, you have to watch it! Ah!

Goals for next month:

Blog! Write more posts. I have so many ideas written on a post-it but I just haven’t had time to write them!

Check out at least one touristy thing in KL this month.

Check out a few clubs within the next few months so that I can write up a nightlife guide for KL.

In August:

I’m planning on checking out one of the Malaysian islands either at the end of this month or the beginning September.

I’m also planning out my trip to Europe in November! Yay!
